Office Makeover
Tuesday, February 22, 2011This makeover has been a long time coming. Sandy initially pitched it to me before Nate was born, but I was resistant. Isn't there a rule that says the dining room has to be a dining room? We moved the desk in there after Nathan arrived, but we've had a hard time keeping the room organized. I hated it because there are no doors to close to hide the mess. So, this weekend we finally bought the supplies and set it up.
The desks are dining tables from IKEA. I love that the surface tops are washable - no need for coasters in here! Sandy has an everyday work area and then the extra space for his second job (he fixes computers for folks on weekends and evenings).
We bought the storage containers from Target. There were awesome bright colors for the fabric bins, but nothing that really coordinated with our existing colors. Sandy found plans for a desk for me that we were originally going to build, but we "made" it using the table and storage cubes. I love it!
The room still a work in progress. There is some artwork we want to buy and we still need another storage thing (we bought out both Targets). Eventually I'd like to replace the computer chair at my sewing table with a non-rolling chair. Maybe with a brightly patterned slipcover or cushion?
We're both really happy with the look of the room and are excited by the storage options we have!

Fifteen Months
Sunday, February 20, 2011We celebrated your 15 months birthday by going to Callaway Gardens to enjoy the nice weather and go see the butterfly house. We took you around this time last year, but you were not a fan of nature and cried the whole time. You were much more enthusiastic this year. You waved to all the bicyclists as we walked to the butterfly house and played with pine needles in your stroller.

The butterfly house was a little disappointing. Apparently a bird had gotten in and used it as an all you can eat buffet, so we only saw 5 or 6 butterflies. It's okay. I'm sure my lantana will be home to dozens again this year and we'll watch those.

After Callaway, we stopped and got your first haircut. The toys and giant TV lulled you into a false sense of security, but you figured out something was up when she tried to put the cape on you. It was 3 minutes and 40 seconds of the best screaming you've done in your short life. Don't worry. Your daddy got it all on video to share with everyone. The mullet is gone and you look like a little boy running around instead of my baby.

You're growing up so fast! You're running and climbing and exploring the world around you. Boy are you smart! You have about 20 words you can say, but understand so many more. You're opinionated and so sensitive and infinitely curious about what's going on.
I love you so much, Nate!

Beautiful Weather
Friday, February 18, 2011I just can't express how much we've enjoyed the beautiful weather this last week! We've been outside every day - cleaning cars, at the park, taking wagon and Cozy Coupe rides in the driveway, and playing with sidewalk chalk.
One of Nathan's newest "words" is bubbles, which is pronounced more like "BUHHHHH" and is accompanied by desperate finger pointing and convulsions. The kid is serious about his bubbles. It's gotten to the point where I have to spell the word (never thought we'd start that so early) to avoid the meltdown that is sure to occur if we don't immediately stop and go play bubbles.
We've also been to the park twice in the last week. Nathan loves climbing up the stairs and playing peekaboo in the tunnel. He likes the slide, but is much more enthusiastic about it if he's in your lap. We met Sandy there after work on Valentine's Day to play. Nate was so excited he was running from one activity to the next when he tripped and faceplanted into the dirt, literally. He left a nose impression. I was still wiping dirt and mulch from his nose and mouth several hours later. My little tough guy didn't even cry, just stood up and tried to get the dirt from his mouth by licking his dirt covered hand.
I know it'll get cold again, but we're going to enjoy every moment of sunshine until then.

First Sentence
Monday, February 7, 2011Nathan strung two words together this evening to say his first sentence. The dog was at the back door, begging to come in, when Nate toddled over to the door, slapped the glass, and said, "Hey Stitch!"
