Here Comes The Sun

Nate & I have been enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures recently. We spend as much time as we can working in the backyard or going for walks.

In honor of Aunt Lora's birthday, Nate rolled from back to belly for the first time today. Go Nathan! (and happy birthday, Lora!)

4 Months!

Nathan,

Today you are four months old! This has been a challenging month for us. You started screaming fits at bed and nap time. At first we assumed you were just fighting sleep, but as the weeks wore on and the scream got louder and longer, we took you to the pediatrician last week to make sure nothing was wrong. According to your doctor, you either have late onset colic, separation anxiety, or a combination of the two. You haven't had a fit since we took you to the doctor, so I think you just wanted to say hi to Dr. Flowers.

Because you've been sleeping so fitfully (20 or 30 minute naps, bedtime as late as 12:15, and waking up 14 times in a night), Daddy & I were exhausted. One night you were crying, I was crying, and Daddy was about to start. He hopped in the car and went to pick up your Meme! She stayed with us for 4 nights and co-slept with you every night. She was right there to stick your paci back in your mouth every time you spat it out and to rub your back when you got a bit fussy. You ate it up!! One night you slept for SIX HOURS! Consecutively! before you were hungry and wanted to eat. We were so grateful to have the help & are much better parents now that we're well rested. I'm so glad you got to spend some quality time with Meme, too!

Whatever it was that had you so out of sorts for so long finally seems to be moving past us (fingers crossed). You very rarely have fits when we go out now (I don't cringe at the thought of going to the grocery store) and are taking much better naps during the day. I can tell that you feel better when you get more sleep! I know that Daddy & I do!

One of the things Daddy thinks has helped is Mr. Monkey. We bought this for you when you were still in my tummy because it was so cute! He's one of the smallest stuffed animals we have, so he's a perfect fit for you to snuggle with during naps & at night! You've even tried to eat him a few times when your paci wasn't readily available.

You have been all about your Daddy the last week or two. Your face lights up when he walks in the door after work and you love to give him a big toothless grin! He was the first person to get you to laugh out loud and you still laugh at him more than anyone else! We've also heard you squeal a few times, too! You love to sit in his lap while he's working on the computer and you think he sings the best silly songs.

Another thing you've discovered this month is talking. In just the last few days you've started babbling to us. I wake to the sound of you talking through the monitor and you tell me all about your night and your dreams as we change your diaper and get ready for the day. You love to sit in your swing and talk to Mr. Monkey after you wake up from a nap, and when Daddy comes home, you give him a full discussion of what we did each day.

Here are a few other pictures of you this month:

I love you, little man.

Art!

It only took a year & a half, but we finally reframed and hung this beautiful painting done by Grammy (Estelle).

It looks absolutely fabulous in our kitchen!

Feeling Crafty

I follow several kid-themed deal a day sites. One of them had the cutest wall art for the nursery using a kit and your child's hand and/or footprint. The deal a day site wanted $20 for one of the kits and the website for the company that made the kit wanted $40. I really liked it, but didn't feel like paying that much money for it. So, we made a trip to Joann's last week to use up a gift card & buy the supplies to do it myself.

Here are the results:

Growing Up!

Nate's getting bigger every day! In the last two weeks he's started actively playing with his toys instead of just looking at them. His new favorite is a small one that rattles & crinkles. I got my first laugh day before yesterday (Sandy said he got one a few days ago) and yesterday we got our first squeal while we were playing peek-a-boo! I can't wait to see what he does next!
