This Tastes Like Cardboard...

I couldn't wait. I was trying to be good & hold out until Nate was officially 6 months old, but I caved. We started solid food Tuesday of this week, 8 days before he turns 6 months. As I'd mentioned in a previous post, he's been tasting slices of fruit for a few weeks - just sort of licking them while I held them. So, today I mixed up the rice cereal we'd bought two months ago with some breast milk and let Sandy feed him while I took pictures.

He started out interested, but that only lasted about two and a half bites.

When he started screaming, we gave up and offered him some frozen banana instead. That was MUCH more popular!

We were at Target the other day & I found a food grinder and mesh gumming bag that is used as a self-feeder that is used to let him eat solid food himself. I'll offer fruit pieces in the self-feeder & use the grinder (and probably the food processor) to make my own baby food. I've heard freezing portions in an ice cube tray is a good method for storing.

So, this week it's banana (and maybe we'll try rice cereal again mixed with some applesauce... or banana-sauce?). Next week we'll try something else... maybe avocado? I've never had it myself, so it would be a good opportunity for me to try something new as well. Now that we've started, there are so many things I'm eager to give him!

PS - Do you see the adorable wrist chub? I love it!!

Turns out Nate really, really likes frozen banana. He threw his first temper tantrum this evening when he finished his first piece of banana & decided he wanted a second!
