You are now 5 months old! Once again, I can't believe how quickly the time is passing! You're looking less and less like a baby and more and more like a little boy. You're acting like one, too. Your personality is developing as you become more alert and inquisitive.
Rolling over has really opened your world. If you're not happy on your back, you flip right over to your tummy to see what else you can see or reach. You're getting really good at grabbing and reaching for your toys instead of waiting for me to hand them to you. If the one you want is out of reach, you'll roll, wiggle, & kick your way to it. As soon as it's in your hands, it's in your mouth. Often it's sharing that slobber space with your fingers or toes and possibly your paci, all at the same time. It's amazing how much you can fit in your mouth!
I guess you're satisfying your increasing curiosity by tasting everything. I refuse, however, to let you taste my iPhone, regardless of how hard you try to get it in your mouth. Grabbing the charger cable and trying to pull it out of my hand is smart, but I'm on to you. It's not going to happen, kid.
If it's not one of your appendages in your mouth, it's one of mine. Your new favorite games is to face me, grab two handfuls of my hair, and latch on to my chin. Gnawing on my fingers is another favorite pastime, and boy do you have some powerful little baby jaws! The dangly earrings are gone and I guess my hair will be in a perpetual ponytail for the next several years.
Another thing that's captured your full attention is Stitch. He's wanted to be your friend since the day we brought you home, but you've completely ignored him. Until now, that is. You watch him where ever he goes (he's almost as interesting as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) and reach out to grab him whenever he gets close. He's excited that you're showing interest in him and even tried to share his cookie when you were on your mat last week. Thankfully I noticed & moved it before you managed to grab it & stick it in your mouth.
We're trying hard to make it to the 6 month mark before starting solid food, but I've started letting you lick some foods when you seem interested. You've tried apples, pears, bananas, and basil pesto sauce. That last one was an accident. I had some on my finger from lunch the other day when you grabbed my hand & shoved my fingers in your mouth. One more month and you'll actually get to eat them instead of just tasting. Hopefully solid foods will bulk you up a bit. At your 4 month doctor's appointment, Dr. Flowers said you were "long & lean" like your Daddy - 51st percentile for height & 20th percentile for weight. When I stepped on the scale with you earlier this week, you were registering 14 pounds, which is just about double your birth weight!
You had an eventful month! We took our first road trips now that you don't scream (as much) when you're in your car seat. We went to Newnan twice - once to visit Grammy in the hospital and then once to visit when she was out since she didn't remember us coming the first time. We also took our first overnight trip with you and went to Meme & Poppy's house! I was worried about how you would handle being away from home, but you did just fine! Meme & Poppy babysat while Daddy & I went to Griffin for a date night. Everybody had a good time. You finally got to meet Big Granny while we were there! I thought she just might eat you up! We also had a mini play date with your cousins Katelyn & Megan. You got jealous when your Daddy was snuggling Megan and cried until he put her down & held you instead. I know your Meme & Poppy loved getting to spend some quality time with you. Our next trip is to Grandmommy's house!
Now that you're tall enough, you really seem to be enjoying your jumperoo. Except that you haven't quite figured out the "jump" part. I've even tried bouncing you in it while jumping up and down (I'm sure I looked a little crazy). You laugh & smile, but don't seem to understand that you can do it yourself. The flashing lights and spinning noise makers are very entertaining, though, and you don't mind hanging out in it while I'm working on laundry or cooking dinner.
We thought that you might master sitting up before your 5 month birthday, but, to quote your Grandmommy, you're still a leaning tower of Piza. You like it when you lean forward & fold in half. That makes your toes closer to your mouth. We'll keep practicing and I know you'll have it down in no time.
Another skill you're working on is scooting... at least I guess that's what you're trying to do. Now that you like to hang out on your tummy, you've been trying to get your little bum up in the air. You'll get your legs going in the crawling motion and manage to get your bottom up and have actually bulldozed face first for an inch or two. Eventually you'll figure out you have to lift the front end along with the back, but it's really entertaining to watch in the meantime.
I love you, little man. I can't wait to see what you do next!
Love,
Mama
